EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) PROVISION

Little Angels Pre-school is committed to the principles laid down in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It is the statutory framework that sets the standards that all Early Years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure our children are ready for their next steps and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through life.
Little Angels Pre-School Curriculum
Here at Little Angels Pre-School we provide a caring and stimulating environment for children to develop and grow. We believe in children leading the way in play, supporting their curiosity and exploring the world around them.
Our pre-school offers a variety of ways for children to explore their imaginations, exposing them to new experiences and following their interests. Encouraging them to believe in themselves and that anything is possible.
We feel that it’s important that every child feels loved, cared for and supported in their time here with us. As we understand that learning takes place best when children are happy, engaged and safe.
We also work hard to build excellent relationships with our parents and carers, getting them involved in every aspect of their child’s learning journey to help nurture and grow. We have a keyworker system in place, so the parent or carer has a consistent person available.
At Little Angels Pre-School we are proud of the fact that many of our families first hear about us through recommendations from our current and past parents.
Our curriculum
We plan our curriculum through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 7 areas of learning, focussing on the Prime areas on communication and language, personal, social and emotional, and physical development.
We do this through singing, storytelling, reading books, and talking to our children. We are committed to establishing a love of books and songs in our children to enhance their vocabulary.
We sing and read stories throughout the day as well as at structured times. We focus on 10 key books in each room, enhancing these with books linked to celebrations, experiences, themes and child’s interests. We focus on 10 songs throughout our setting to bring familiarity between rooms and consistency for the children.
For our physical development we firstly work on our gross motor skills through climbing, dancing, yoga and play, before we move onto our fine motor skills development.
Our babies and 2 year olds concentrate on the prime areas, moving on to specific areas in our 2/3s and pre-school rooms or where age and stage is appropriate with our younger children.
Our vision
Wings of care for every child.
We believe that each unique child deserves the opportunity to enable them to flourish and grow in a safe and secure environment ready for the next stage of their life.
What we want our children to achieve during their time with us
We want children to become confident and independent, who are ready to move on to the next stage in their life. We want our pre-schoolers to go to school able to put on their own coat, use the toilet unsupported and know they need to wash their hands, recognise their name, be able to open their lunch box and food unsupported, understand what is appropriate behaviour, be confident to ask for help when needed and be able to socialise in an appropriate way.
We do this by breaking this down into End of Room aims for each room, where we use the EYFS and Birth to 5 statements to support children’s next steps and plan for their individual development.
We currently have 3 rooms - our Yellow Room for Baby and Toddlers, our Purple Room for 2/3s and our Blue Room for our pre-school children who also attend Meriden Primary School Nursery. We work closely with the EYFS lead at the school to support the learning and development of the children who attend both settings. We continue the work they have done at school nursery whilst enhancing and supporting through adult led and child led activities.
